Compare user-verified tax amounts with marketplace collection records and an existing reserve.
Match jurisdiction, period and scope
Use the amount established through your independent tax review and the marketplace report covering the same transactions. Collected customer tax, paid to the tax authority tax and your own required payment are distinct concepts.
How the calculation works
Remaining estimated amount = max(user-verified amount − confirmed marketplace collected/paid to the tax authority amount for the same scope, 0). Additional reserve = max(remaining amount − existing reserve, 0). Signed comparison retains a negative difference for review.
A worked example
A user-verified amount of 800 less 650 confirmed marketplace coverage leaves 150. With 100 already reserved, the additional reserve is 50. The figures are entered assumptions, not tax rates calculated by this tool.
Investigate a negative difference
More marketplace coverage than the entered amount may mean a scope mismatch, adjustment or overpayment. It does not automatically establish a refund. Confirm the records with your adviser before filing or moving a reserve.
What the result leaves out
This does not determine Etsy or another marketplace’s legal obligations, sales-tax rates, exemptions, nexus or filing requirements. Do not subtract marketplace collections unless they cover the same verified scope and were confirmed as paid to the tax authority.

The defaults are constructed examples, not market benchmarks. Choose one currency for every monetary input; the currency selector formats values and does not convert exchange rates. Keep a copy of the records and assumptions behind your result so you can repeat the comparison after the next reporting period.
