How this calculator works
Labor hours = returns × (support minutes + inspection/restocking minutes + exchange fraction × extra exchange minutes) ÷ 60. Handling cost = labor hours × hourly cost + returns × other handling cost. Per-return cost divides by a positive return count.Worked example
One hundred twenty returns with eight support and 12 inspection minutes plus 30% needing ten extra exchange minutes average 23 labor minutes each. That is 46 hours at 25, or 1,150 labor. Other handling of two per return adds 240 for 1,390 total.Assumptions
Defaults are illustrative. Replace them with your own measured quantities and documented assumptions. Use matching periods and a consistent currency wherever monetary amounts are entered.Interpreting your results
No returns are processed automatically. Refunds, shipping already priced elsewhere, lost inventory value and recovered resale proceeds are excluded unless explicitly included in the nonlabor handling amount. Avoid double counting exchanges.Calculation formulas
- hours
returns*(support+inspection+exchange/100*exmin)/60- Total returns handling cost
hours*rate+returns*other- Handling time
hours- Handling cost per returned item
SAFE_DIV(hours*rate+returns*other,returns,0)
Frequently asked questions
What should I check before using the result?
Support contacts and warehouse handling occur in different places and can be missed in a single estimate. Measure both. Extra exchange minutes should include only work beyond the basic return process already counted.
Does this tool connect to my records?
No. This is a local calculation from the figures you enter. It does not scan accounts, import private records or verify legal, regulatory or exam requirements.
