Compare measured waste-hauling route hours and operating costs before changing a schedule.
Time the whole route
Include the disposal queue, loading, required breaks and return journey. Use comparable days; a quiet route should not be compared with a full route without adjusting the workload.
How the calculation works
Route hours = (stops × service minutes + driving minutes + loading/disposal minutes) ÷ 60. Monthly cost difference = (current hours − proposed hours) × monthly routes × hourly operating cost. A negative difference means the proposed route costs more.
A worked example
Twenty stops at 12 minutes, 180 driving minutes and 60 fixed minutes take eight hours. Reducing driving to 140 minutes gives 7.33 hours. Across 22 routes at 70 per hour, the difference is 1,026.67.
Check whether saved time becomes savings
A shorter route can release capacity without reducing payroll or vehicle ownership costs. Use an avoidable hourly cost for a cash comparison, or label the result as time value. Trial the proposed schedule before treating the saving as ongoing.
What the result leaves out
No routes or addresses are optimized. Traffic, disposal opening hours, vehicle capacity and customer time windows require a separate feasibility check.

The defaults are constructed examples, not market benchmarks. Choose one currency for every monetary input; the currency selector formats values and does not convert exchange rates. Keep a copy of the records and assumptions behind your result so you can repeat the comparison after the next reporting period.
