Compare fulfilled units with comparable net customer payments and documented return adjustments.
Match fulfillment and payment group of records
Count shipped or completed units according to one definition and follow the same orders into payments. A customer payment received before fulfillment belongs to a different timing stage and should not be mixed into the group of records.
How the calculation works
Adjusted fulfilled sales value = fulfilled units × comparable unit charge − documented discounts − return value. Signed difference = adjusted fulfilled value − comparable net payments. Positive review amount = max(signed difference, 0).
A worked example
Five hundred fulfilled units at 40 give 20,000. Subtract 1,000 discounts and 800 returns for 18,200 adjusted value. Against 17,700 comparable payments, the signed difference is 500.
Avoid counting returns twice
If fulfilled units already exclude returned units, do not also subtract their full value. If net payments already include refunds, make the expected side comparable. Separate product groups when a single average price hides a wide price spread.
What the result leaves out
No inventory or payment system is audited. The difference can include unpaid terms, timing, mixed prices or refunds, and is not proof of theft or nonpayment. Tax, shipping and processor fees must be treated consistently.

The defaults are constructed examples, not market benchmarks. Choose one currency for every monetary input; the currency selector formats values and does not convert exchange rates. Keep a copy of the records and assumptions behind your result so you can repeat the comparison after the next reporting period.
