How this calculator works

Potential annual billable value = attorneys × potential hours per attorney × hourly rate. Unrecorded value = potential value × unrecorded percentage. Estimated invoice opportunity = unrecorded value × the assumed percentage that can be invoiced percentage for recovered time.

percentage that can be invoiced means the percentage of recorded billable value that reaches an invoice. This calculation applies it only to the recovered time, so it does not count all percentage that can be invoiced shortfalls as time leakage.

Worked example

8 attorneys × 1,700 hours × 350 = 4,760,000 in potential billable value. At 6% unrecorded time, 285,600 is unrecorded at face value. With 92% percentage that can be invoiced, the estimated annual invoice opportunity is 262,752. Recovering 25% yields 65,688 per year.

Assumptions

Defaults are an illustrative scenario, not a benchmark. Rates and hours are blended across attorneys. The recovered work is billable and can still be invoiced. The percentage that can be invoiced assumption is independent of recording loss.

Interpreting your results

This is potential invoice value, not guaranteed collected cash or profit. Apply collection probability, additional labor, implementation cost and recovery timing before deciding what to spend. If your hours input contains only recorded hours, first reconstruct an estimate of total eligible work.

Frequently asked questions

Is the result money already lost?

No. It is estimated invoice opportunity from estimated unrecorded work. Some time may no longer be recoverable and some invoices may not be collected.

Are the default percentages industry benchmarks?

No. All defaults are examples. Replace them with your own measured data.
